Richard Yates and Sarah Harris Rowe Home

120 Sandusky

Date Built:  1922-23

Architectural Style:  Spanish Colonial Revival

  • The house has an asymmetrical facade with irregular wall heights and complex roof line.

  • There is a round-arched doorway and round-arched window casements above.

  • The house has a textured stucco wall surface.

  •  Low, hipped roofs are on the home.

Who has lived here:

  • Richard Yates Rowe and his bride Sarah fell in love with a house they saw on their honeymoon in Denver.

  • They had a photographer take pictures of the house and then they hired a Jacksonville contractor to build to “duplicate” the home.

Interesting Notes:

  • Originally the heating from the house came from the house of Mr. Rowe’s parents at 1152 W. State; the heat was piped through a tunnel by a water pump controlled by a thermostat at the Sandusky house.

  • There is a fountain surrounded by a goldfish pool to create a Spanish courtyard inside the house.
