  • The house was designed and built by Joseph Goveia, a prominent local builder.

Interesting notes:

  • There are fifty-six windows in the house and its hallways help keep the house cool in summer.

  • Originally the ceiling and upper portion of the formal dining room were covered in leather.

Who has lived here:  

  • Mr. and Mrs. William A. Jenkinson, who founded  the Jenkinson grocery were the original owners.

  • They had a wholesale grocery business in Jacksonville.         

  • Several superintendents of  the Illinois School for the Deaf have also lived in the home.
