Hoffman, a railroad worker, originally built the house.

occupied the house until 1962 when the property was sold to the current
owners.
Interesting Notes:

Mr.
Hoffman moved to Jacksonville to become ticket agent/telegrapher for the
Alton railroad after an accident at work forced the amputation of
his right
forearm and he could no longer serve as a railroad fireman.

He was killed
in 1904 when he was run over by a switch engine going 4 m.p.h.
