Whom does the Illinois School for the Deaf serve?
The school is an integral part of the statewide continuum of services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and serves students ages 3 to 21, from preschool through the 12th grade. The school also serves infants and toddlers in the surrounding area who are deaf or hard of hearing in its 0-3 program.

What does the school offer students?
The school has the following to offer:

· The opportunity to use advanced technology at school
· Opportunities for students to interact with peers in educational, social, and sports activities

Other Services offered to students

Sports
ISD offers a variety of sports. There are junior high and high school football, basketball, and track for the boys. There are junior high and high school volleyball, basketball, and track for the girls. There are youth basketball, volleyball and flag football for elementary children and Special Olympics for our special needs students. Cheerleading is available during the football and basketball seasons for both boys and girls in junior high and high school.

Support Services
ISD offers a wide range of support services that include educational and clinical evaluation, audiological, speech and language, medical, media, health and social work services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision screening, orientation and mobility training, LD/BD resource, interpreting, note-taking, transition and academic counseling.

Residential Facilities
ISD provides residential facilities. Students share a room with another student, and they are encouraged to bring personal items from home to decorate their dorm room. The dormitories also have living rooms and small kitchens where students can socialize, watch TV, and make snacks. Meals are provided in a separate dining room.
